Terminology
The following terms are used throughout the ComputeSphere documentation and development ecosystem.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Account | The primary access point and highest organizational level within ComputeSphere, serving as a secure boundary and billing entity for all projects and environments. |
| App Services | A suite of tools and infrastructure on ComputeSphere designed to deploy, manage, and scale web applications efficiently, catering to developers, organizations, and enterprises. |
| Build and Deploy | Build and Deploy is a service for deploying applications directly from a code repository. |
| Build Logs | Logs documenting the steps and issues encountered during the application build process in the ComputeSphere Build and Deploy, aiding in debugging and build optimization. |
| CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery) | A development practice that involves automatically integrating code changes and deploying them to production. |
| ComputeSphere | ComputeSphere is a cloud hosting that offers a streamlined, intuitive platform that simplifies the management of various applications across various geographic locations and business contexts. |
| Cron Job | Cron Job is a service that schedules and executes timed tasks in the ComputeSphere environment. |
| Custom Domain | A personalized domain name that replaces the default ComputeSphere URL. |
| Datastores | Datastores offer various managed database services, such as PostgreSQL, Valkey, and persistent disk. |
| Deploy Container Image | Deploy Container Image is a service that deploys Docker container images to ComputeSphere. |
| Deployment Logs | Logs detailing the deployment process, including step-by-step execution, warnings, and errors, essential for troubleshooting deployment issues. |
| DNS (Domain Name System) | The system that translates domain names into IP addresses, used to configure how a custom domain points to a ComputeSphere application. |
| Docker Container | A Docker container is a lightweight, standalone, executable storage package that includes everything needed to run an application: code, runtime, system tools, system libraries, and settings. |
| Docker Image | A Docker image is a read-only template that contains instructions for creating a container. It is a snapshot or blueprint of the libraries and dependencies required for an application to run inside a container. |
| Domain Registrar | A service provider from which you purchase and register custom domain names for your application. |
| Environment | Environments within a Project allow you to manage different stages of your application lifecycle easily. Each environment can be configured to suit the specific needs of its development stage. |
| Private Network | A network-isolated environment within ComputeSphere designed to enhance security and control over cloud infrastructure, allowing secure communication within the network boundary. |
| Project | A project is a logical grouping of services and resources within an account related to a single or suite of applications. Projects allow for resource grouping and environment containment. |
| Runtime Logs | Logs capturing live application events, errors, and performance metrics, providing real-time insights into application behavior during execution. |
| Secure Socket Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) | Protocols for establishing encrypted links between a web server and a browser, ensuring that all data transmitted remains private and secure. |
| Spherelet | Spherelet is a dynamic compute unit designed to power applications through a scalable and credit-based resource allocation model. This scales the total CPU and RAM allocated for your services. |
| Spherestor | Spherestor is a durable and performant persistent disk service offered by ComputeSphere. |
| Staging | A pre-production environment where final testing and quality assurance occur, closely mirroring the production environment to ensure accurate testing. |
| Webhook | A mechanism for real-time notifications and data transfer from ComputeSphere to external systems or services. Webhooks can notify about events like deployment statuses, billing updates, or application alerts, enabling integration with tools like Slack or custom-built systems. |
